General Exclusions

Every insurance policy has certain exclusions and limitations on treatments that it will not cover. The most important exclusions are directed towards pre-existing or chronic conditions which the insured has suffered prior to taking out the policy. However, there is also a list of treatments for which the client will generally not be covered unless previously agreed upon by the insurance provider.

Treatments that most often appear in policy exclusion section are:

  • AIDS or HIV related diseases.
  • Conditions developed due to abuse of alcohol, drugs or medications.
  • Contraception, including sterilization.
  • Cosmetic surgery.
  • Epidemics that are under the direction of the authorities.
  • Experimental Care, including nursing homes.
  • Fertility treatment or testing.
  • Obesity treatments, including gastric bypass surgery.
  • Sexual dysfunction.
  • Injured incurred whilst committing a Terrorist act.
  • Psychological treatments.
  • Abortion unless medically prescribed.
  • Any condition arising or directly attributed to radiation.
  • Self inflicted injuries.
  • Treatment preformed by the insured, their spouse, parents, or children.

Since the list of exclusions varies between each individual provider, it is necessary to check with the insurance representative for specific details of the desired plan. The insured can also find a comprehensive list of exclusions in the policy conditions section of the purchased insurance plan.
